Job Summary

Battelle is seeking a highly skilled Radio Frequency Design Engineer III to join our Electronic Warfare group within the National Security Division.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading tasks in the development of complex RF systems, instruments, and components for utilization in cyber and Electronic Warfare (EW) solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop RF systems, instruments, and components for EW applications
  • Lead tasks in the development of complex RF systems, including phased array antennas and wideband transceivers
  • Collaborate with antenna engineers on state-of-the-art phased array antennas, requiring a solid foundational understanding of antenna design and phased array applications
  • Assist in the creation of technical presentations and reports, working near-autonomously on underdefined problems
  • Participate in client interactions and field tests
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or related field + 8 years of experience
  • Master's degree in EE or related field + 5 years of experience
  • PhD in EE or related field + 2 years of experience
  • Expertise in RF designs implemented at a circuit board level integrated into larger systems, RF design techniques, impedance matching, simulation tools, and microwave test equipment
  • Experience with ECAD design software suites such as Cadance Virtuoso and Allegro, and Altium Designer
  • Hands-on design experience with electromagnetic simulation and modeling tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, Genesys, and/or AWR
  • Creating and/or working with RF/microwave link budgets to drive system requirements
  • Technical writing for proposals, white papers, test plans, and reports
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 3GPP 5GNR and O-RAN system design, integration, and test
  • Experience with VITA-49 system design, integration, and test
  • Familiarity with mobile cellular network equipment, deployment, and industry practices
  • Design, integration, and evaluation of Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESAs)
  • Experience with Software Defined Radios (SDR), including writing software for SDRs and integrating SDRs into RF systems
