About the Role

The Conservation Fund is seeking an experienced and skilled Illinois State Director to lead our land conservation efforts in the state. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to protect and preserve natural resources in Illinois.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Conservation Efforts: Develop and implement effective conservation strategies to protect and preserve natural resources in Illinois.
  • Partner Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with state and local government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private landowners to advance conservation goals.
  • Land Acquisition and Management: Oversee the acquisition and management of conservation lands, including fee simple, conservation easements, and other land protection tools.
  • Fundraising and Development: Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support conservation efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and special events.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of conservation professionals to ensure effective implementation of conservation strategies.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to build support for conservation efforts and promote the importance of land conservation.
Requirements
  • 10+ Years of Experience: In land conservation, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Proven Track Record: Of successful conservation efforts, including land acquisition, management, and fundraising.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and manage a team of conservation professionals.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private landowners.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex conservation issues and develop effective solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree: In a related field, such as environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Experience with State and Local Governments: Familiarity with state and local government agencies and their roles in conservation efforts.
