Job Summary:

The Building Equipment Research Group in the Buildings and Transportation Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Technical Professional Staff position. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting, coordinating, and reporting complex research and development related to energy conversion systems, including advanced residential and commercial appliances, plug loads, and miscellaneous electric loads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, fabricate, measure, analyze, and model novel systems and components to improve appliance energy efficiency, demand flexibility, and user experience.
  • Develop novel equipment designs and experimental setups, conduct experimental campaigns, and perform thermodynamic analysis and system modeling.
  • Interact and collaborate with researchers from universities, national laboratories, and private industry to advance the field of HVAC&R equipment and appliances.
  • Provide high-level expertise and instruct junior engineers in the development of advanced laboratory equipment.

Requirements:

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in a field related to HVAC&R, water heating, or appliances, or a strong background in design, development, or laboratory testing of HVAC&R equipment and appliances.
  • Knowledge of standards by which appliances are evaluated, including federal minimum standards, ENERGY STAR, and REEOs.
