About the JobThe Pathology Group of Louisiana is seeking a highly skilled Cytology Prep Technician to join our team. As a Cytology Prep Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality cytology specimens are prepared for pathologist review.
Key Responsibilities- Cytology Preparation:
- Assist with verifying, grossing, processing, labeling, and staining cytology specimens to ensure accuracy and compliance with laboratory guidelines.
- Log specimens and maintain accurate records on cytology logs.
- Assign proper case type and protocol, update slide and cassette inventory in computer systems.
- Store and/or discard cytology specimens at end of day.
- Stain and label all cytology slides received or produced according to current guidelines.
- End-of-Day Procedures - Cytology and Grossing Area:
- Stain and properly label all cytology slides.
- Place all cellblocks in formalin to be loaded onto the processor with small tissues.
- Store residual specimens and clean cytology area and/or grossing bay at end of day.
- Miscellaneous Tasks:
- Assist in other areas of histology as training and competency are achieved (embedding, staining, tagging slides, filing blocks, logging in received supplies).
- Perform other duties assigned by the histology manager(s) or lead technician.
- Bachelor of Science Degree preferred; Associate of science degree with CLIA regulations satisfied.
- Some medical lab experience.
- Meet CLIA requirements (transcript approval required by Compliance).
- Work with various chemicals and reagents as outlined in MSDS manuals.
- Work in a well-lighted, cool room.

- Use office equipment including a copier, fax machine, printer, and computer.
- Use lab equipment including microtomes, cryostats, stainers, processors.
$45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
