The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a key player in the U.S. Department of Energy, focusing on the advancement of naval nuclear propulsion technology. Our mission encompasses providing essential technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear reactors, as well as training the Sailors who operate these reactors.
With nearly 8,000 dedicated employees, we operate in multiple states, including Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho, and maintain a global presence at various shipyards and vendor locations.
Position SummaryThis role offers a unique opportunity for candidates seeking a position with significant responsibility and hands-on experience. The initial assignment will take place at one of our laboratories, providing valuable exposure to our fleet support engineering community. This experience includes offering reactor plant engineering support for aircraft carrier and submarine platforms throughout their life cycles.
Candidates should be prepared to relocate for approximately two years before transitioning into the Field Engineering Program, which involves a 3-5 year assignment in a shipyard.
Key Responsibilities- Provide engineering support and independent oversight of installation, reactor servicing, testing, and modification of reactor plant systems.
- Engage during nuclear operations, applying sound engineering principles to influence and provide feedback to on-site management.
- Complete job-specific qualifications, with training expected to last around one year, depending on prior experience.
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related science field from an accredited institution is required. Candidates must be willing to relocate to a shipyard and return to the laboratory after completing the assignment.
