Position Summary:

The Radiology Specialist in Nuclear Medicine plays a crucial role in utilizing advanced imaging technology to capture detailed images of patients' internal systems. This position involves the preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals, conducting imaging procedures, and ensuring the utmost safety and comfort for patients throughout their experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient medical histories and clarify imaging processes. Administer radiopharmaceuticals via appropriate methods, including oral and intravenous routes.
  • Operate sophisticated nuclear medicine apparatus, including gamma cameras, PET scanners, and SPECT scanners, to obtain high-quality images of various organs and tissues.
  • Prepare and deliver radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with established guidelines, ensuring precise dosages and optimal patient positioning for superior imaging results.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and medical professionals to analyze and interpret imaging outcomes, providing valuable insights that aid in accurate diagnoses.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance tests on imaging devices to maintain image accuracy and consistency. Keep meticulous records of equipment performance and testing outcomes.
  • Follow stringent safety protocols to reduce radiation exposure risks to patients, staff, and themselves. Properly manage and dispose of radioactive materials in compliance with regulations.
  • Offer emotional support and reassurance to patients during imaging procedures, ensuring they feel comfortable and well-informed throughout the process.
  • Maintain comprehensive patient records, documenting imaging results, radiopharmaceutical administration, and any observed reactions.
  • Perform regular maintenance on imaging equipment and address minor technical issues. Coordinate with biomedical engineers for more complex repairs.
  • Stay informed about advancements in nuclear medicine technology, safety standards, and regulatory updates. Engage in ongoing education to uphold relevant certifications.
  • Physical demands include lifting at least 50 pounds and standing for extended periods.
  • Carry out additional related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related discipline.
  • Certification from a recognized accrediting body, such as the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • State licensure or certification, if mandated in the applicable region.
  • Thorough understanding of radiation safety protocols and regulations.
  • Exceptional communication and patient care abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong capacity for accurate documentation of procedures.
  • Problem-solving skills to effectively address equipment malfunctions and patient responses.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
