Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist will provide therapy services to eligible students to facilitate their ability to function in the educational setting. The ideal candidate will assist classroom teachers, principals, and community members in understanding and meeting the needs of students with orthopedic impairments and/or motor delays.

Key Responsibilities:

Arrange schedules to meet the needs of students served
Identify and prescribe intervention strategies for motor functioning in orthopedically impaired students or students with motor delays
Provide evaluation and intervention services to eligible children and coordinate program services with existing special education programs
Work with multi-disciplinary teams to contribute to eligibility determination, develop individualized education programs, and attend conferences as necessary
Provide occupational therapy services to students as established by IFSP/IEP
Work closely with parents, teachers, and community resources to provide optimum services
Construct or order adaptive devices according to individual student needs and provide instruction on its proper care and use
Maintain confidentiality and comply with state and federal regulations regarding privacy

Requirements:

Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Oregon or ability to obtain
Ability to work harmoniously and communicate with other agencies, parents, and staff members
Ability to assess physical limitations and psycho-social needs of individual students
Current first aid card and CPR card

Working Conditions:

The Occupational Therapist may work in regular or special education settings and/or in community settings with students in small or large groups or 1-to-1 and may be required to travel on the job. The employee may work beyond an eight-hour day or a five-day work week attending meetings, conferences, and school activities. The employee needs to be competent in conflict resolution and able to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving staff, students, parents, and patrons. Confidentiality is a top priority for the person in this position. The employee at times works under varied workloads and inflexible deadlines, requiring sound judgment to effectively prioritize demands.
