Atrium Health Mercy is a well-established community hospital, renowned for its compassionate care and advanced medical practices. The facility specializes in senior care, complex foot and ankle surgeries, hip and knee surgeries, bariatric procedures, and women's pelvic health.
Position Summary:
The Interventional Radiology Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting with various invasive angiographic and interventional procedures within the Interventional Radiology Suite. This position is responsible for surgical preparation and circulation duties, ensuring total patient care during and after procedures while patients are in the Interventional Radiology area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts specialized radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging for interventional and angiographic procedures under physician supervision.
- Communicates the procedure details to patients and prepares them accordingly.
- Acquires medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast agents as directed for administration by authorized personnel.
- Maintains patient comfort during procedures while circulating in the room.
- Supplies necessary materials for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures.
- Handles the removal of catheters/sheaths and applies direct pressure or clamps as required.
- Provides essential report information to the nursing unit or holding area as necessary.
- Accurately records and processes hemodynamic reports, contrast media records, and charges in a timely manner.
- Inputs patient data and inventory into the WITT program and ensures films are sent for review.
- Reports any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate leadership or engineering personnel for repairs.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing and walking while wearing lead radiation protection aprons weighing between 10 to 15 pounds. Exposure to radiation, bodily fluids, and blood is expected. The working environment may be confined, necessitating normal vision, manual dexterity, and good hand-eye coordination to operate equipment effectively. Constant focus is required during procedures.
Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or GED is required. Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program or an accredited Radiology Interventional Program is mandatory. BLS certification is required per policy guidelines. RTR certification is necessary. A minimum of one year in diagnostic radiology and one year in Interventional Radiology is preferred. Candidates must meet all competency checklist requirements for the position.
