Job Description

Powerserve Technologies is seeking a skilled Protection and Control Technician 2

This role involves developing knowledge and skills to meet and excel in various responsibilities, qualifications, and skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend to work assignments with a high level of dependability, reliability, and perseverance.

  • Develop and maintain proficiency in AC and DC circuit theory, electronics, transformers, and 3-phase systems.
  • Understand the theory of operation of basic relays and protection systems, devices, and instrumentation transformers.
  • Learn and apply advanced testing methodologies and proper use of multimeters, test equipment, and testing devices.
  • Draw schematic diagrams from verbal descriptions.
  • Apply Human Performance Tools, testing, and record-keeping techniques.
  • Read and understand utility and technical drawings.
  • Identify physical locations, equipment, and orientations shown on drawings.
  • Use hand and power tools effectively.
  • Complete assigned paperwork, test forms, and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Assemble control panels from drawings.
  • Develop leadership and responsibility.
  • Follow Human Performance, Safety, and Environmental rules and procedures.

Qualifications

Required (Basic):

Associate of Science in applied fields (electronics, power systems, information).

Associates of Arts with pre-electrical engineering electives.

Competent in Algebra and Trigonometry as it pertains to electrical theory and testing calculations.

Proficiency in 3-phase, transformer, circuit analysis, and other parameters.

Proficiency in setting and testing overcurrent microprocessor-based relays.

One year of field experience in controls or control panel wiring.

Preferred:

Familiarity with ANSI/NETA testing requirements and procedures.

Two years of field experience in protection and control systems.

Skills and Characteristics:

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and goal-driven.

Dependable and punctual.

Mechanical aptitude.

Studious and motivated to learn.

Proficient in hand and power tool use.

Attentive to detail.

Time organization.

Leadership.

Company DescriptionPowerserve Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1995 by Linda and Al Hernandez. Initially, the company consisted of a group of ex-Florida Power & Light employees. This group of senior people included areas of expertise in substation engineering, protection & control, and substation construction and maintenance. Our company has been growing since then by hiring people of integrity and training them. We currently perform substation and protection & control work throughout Florida and in various other states. We have performed these projects in Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. We excel at difficult projects and system-wide improvements/modifications. If we can perform the required work safely, in a quality manner, and with acceptable productivity, we will seriously consider any project. The company is transitioning to a 100% employee-owned company.
