Utility Worker II

This is a skilled construction and maintenance position that involves performing a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of city streets and sewer systems, or landscaping of City owned property and/or parks. The work involves operating a wide variety of more complex motorized equipment and performing tasks of more than ordinary difficulty requiring special knowledge or on-the-job training.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct field data collection tasks as directed for the city's asset management program, including initial and ongoing training and use of mobile applications to record spatial data for utility assets. Identify and evaluate deficiencies in utility infrastructure and assign specific descriptors and ratings.
Operate a Vac-truck/flush truck, trucks with tow apparatus, and variety of motorized equipment. Perform a variety of journey-level trades' work such as carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, welding, lawn manicure/landscaping, and others.
Required to work overtime, respond to emergencies outside normal weekdays, be on call, and perform snow removal duties. Coordinates and supervises skilled workers in the absence of the Crew leader, ensures supplies and equipment are available and accessible for job completion, and monitors contractor work for quality assurance.
Requirements
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years of experience as a Utility Worker I or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and maintenance work. Ability to perform skilled construction and maintenance work, demonstrate mechanical aptitude, understand and follow oral and written instructions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and follow City safety regulations.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Possession of a valid class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) With Tankers endorsement (N) and a good driving record. Requires Forklift Operator certification, Flagging, Basic Traffic Control, and Work Zone certifications, and NASSCO certifications in pipeline (PACP) and manhole assessments (MACP) highly preferred.
