Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Therapist to join our team at United American Indian Involvement (UAII). As a Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing mental health care services to American Indian clients in Los Angeles County.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct program intakes and psychosocial assessments to identify client needs and develop treatment plans.
  • Provide individual, couples, and family therapy using evidence-based interventions to promote client well-being and resilience.
  • Develop and lead psychoeducational group sessions, such as parenting classes and support groups, to empower clients and their families.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments as needed to ensure client safety and well-being.
  • Partner with Case Coordinators to obtain resources and referrals for clients to sustain their involvement in center programs and treatment.
  • Maintain aftercare follow-up and support to clients completing center programs and treatment.
  • Collaborate with other center clinicians, consulting specialists, and representatives from schools, DCFS, and other jurisdictions to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Participate in Outpatient Staff meetings, Clinical Case Conferences, and other meetings as assigned to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Conduct in-service training to center staff and others as assigned to promote professional development and best practices.
Requirements
  • MA in clinical psychology, MSW, or Ph.D./Psy.D. in psychology from an accredited graduate program.
  • Minimum one-year clinical experience working with multiple-problem families, including unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, etc.
  • Minimum one-year clinical experience with children and families.
  • Some experience providing home-based/community-based counseling services.
  • LMFT, LCSW, or equivalent certification.
  • California license from the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information, adhering to HIPPA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.
  • Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law).
  • Bilingual in Spanish or ASL fluency.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk frequently, sit, bend, twist, talk, and hear. There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with staff and vendors.

UAII will make any practical, feasible, and reasonable arrangements to accommodate qualified applicants and employees with disabilities if it can do so without undue hardship.

The incumbent must have successful coping mechanisms in place to cope with the mental demands of the Therapist position, including but not limited to high stress and anxiety-provoking situations.
