Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented School Nutrition Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our food service team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our school meal program.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation of breakfast and lunch programs, including menu planning and inventory management.
  • Prepare and serve meals, wash dishes, and clean equipment and facilities as needed.
  • Understand and follow proper procedures for safety and use of food service equipment.
  • Calculate quantities of food to be prepared each day while minimizing food waste.
  • Use and assist in training staff on the use of standardized recipes to ensure serving of safe food and meet USDA requirements.
  • Maintain a positive work environment where staff feel welcome and valued.
  • Attend in-service meetings and trainings to gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Maintain temperature logs when necessary to ensure safety.
  • Ensure proper receiving and storage procedures are maintained by following current sanitation guidelines.
  • Support the department's continuous improvement program by accomplishing goals.

  • Proper use of commercial kitchen equipment to minimize accidents, safety, and sanitation concerns.

  • Attending to detail.
  • Making quick, logical, and decisive decisions as daily challenges occur.

  • Creating a safe and caring work environment where staff feel welcome and valued.
  • Communicating effectively using good interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding and following Nutrition Services processes, including standardized recipes, labels, safety data sheets, cooking and cleaning procedures.
