Position Overview
We are looking for a knowledgeable and meticulous Pharmacy Compliance Counsel to become a vital part of our legal and compliance team. This role demands significant expertise in pharmacy compliance regulations, a robust legal foundation, and a thorough understanding of the regulatory landscape, risk management, and governance in the pharmacy sector. The Pharmacy Compliance Counsel will be responsible for developing and executing thorough compliance programs to guarantee adherence to legal and regulatory standards throughout our organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Guidance: Provide expert legal counsel on pharmacy regulatory laws and deliver support to various departments regarding compliance issues, including regulatory interpretations and licensing requirements.
- Compliance Strategy Development: Take ownership of and implement a robust compliance strategy aligned with regulatory standards and organizational goals.
- Program Management: Design and oversee compliance programs, incorporating best practices to mitigate compliance risks effectively.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various teams to embed compliance objectives into business operations and strategic initiatives.
- Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about relevant laws and industry best practices to ensure compliance programs remain effective and up-to-date.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary contact for regulatory bodies and external auditors regarding compliance inquiries and investigations.
- Reporting: Prepare and present regular compliance reports to senior management, highlighting activities, findings, and recommendations.
- Risk Identification: Proactively identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to address them before they escalate.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- 8+ years of legal experience in healthcare, with a minimum of 5 years in the pharmacy sector.
- In-depth knowledge of pharmacy regulations and the ability to navigate various state regulatory frameworks.
- Strong understanding of laws impacting pharmacy operations (e.g., CSA, HIPAA, FDA/DSCSA).
- Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing and collaborating across all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PharmD degree.
- Experience interpreting Board of Pharmacy regulations in diverse pharmacy settings.
- Prior experience managing compliance-related investigations within the pharmacy sector.
- Regulatory expertise with the ability to prioritize compliance efforts effectively.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements across various pharmacy operations.
- Experience in both startup and established pharmacy environments.
- Experience in accreditation and policy management.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
- Close visual acuity for data analysis and extensive reading.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels.
- Frequent use of hands and wrists for computer operation.
- Occasional exposure to varying environmental conditions.
