Job Summary:

M.C. Dean, Inc. is seeking a skilled Ship / Submarine Welder 1 to join our Maritime Division in Chesapeake, VA. As a key member of our Alteration Installation Teams, you will support C4ISR system installations on ships and submarines.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and installation of products
  • Use a variety of ARC and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as foundations, cable collars, cable/pipe/vent hangers, cable tube penetrations, studs, etc.
  • Weld in all positions and for all types of metals and alloys in various shapes to include pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, bar stock, machinery and equipment
  • Perform thermal cutting and grinding, and repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase size of metal parts
  • Supervise and lead teams to ensure timely completion of projects
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of applicable welding experience
  • ASNT NDT Level I Certification, or relevant experience
  • One (1) other relevant technical certification or qualification such as American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Supervisor, AWS Certified Weld Inspector, or other
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Valid driver's license

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily in San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA, but may travel for extended periods to other shipyards in the USA and to other Navy ports outside the USA
  • Must be a US Citizenship eligible for clearance
  • Must pass a background investigation

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis

Security Clearance:

Must be eligible for a security clearance and pass a background investigation.
