Surgical Care Specialist

Phaxis is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Care Specialist to join our team in a Level 1 Adult Level 2 Pediatric American College of Surgeons Verified Trauma Center. As a Surgical Care Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing and serving the needs of surgical patients, working closely with our surgical team to provide exceptional care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Develop and implement assessment and therapeutic plans, providing ongoing patient care throughout admission.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians and other disciplines to develop comprehensive plans of care.
  • Input daily, pre/post-operative, and as needed orders.
  • Initiate consultations and refer patients for diagnostic testing based on assessment and collaboration with primary attending physicians.
  • Perform functions in the operating room as First or Second assist.
  • Participate in daily rounds to observe and record patient progress, updating and summarizing charts, writing orders and progress notes, and notifying physicians of any changes in patient condition as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the surgical PA team to address the needs of surgical patients.

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree from an accredited PA School required.
  • Licensure as a PA in New York State required.
  • Certification as a PA by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) OR 5 years surgical PA experience required.
  • For graduates prior to 1986, completion of degree from non-accredited program is acceptable if certified through PANCE exam required.
  • BLS & ACLS certificate required.
