Job Summary

The Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 298-bed, Joint Commission-accredited, Level 1C facility providing comprehensive care to both ambulatory and critically ill patients through Primary Care, Tertiary Care, and Long-Term Care in areas of Medicine, Surgery, Mental Health, Extended Care and Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, along with Supportive and Social Services.

Responsibilities
  • VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
  • Responsibilities include participating in national VHA conference calls and audio conferences on issues related to both the Hospitalist Section, Facility, and any new programs or initiatives affecting the two entities.
  • The incumbent will also participate in any conferences, calls, or meetings related to patient outcomes, customer service, service improvement, or the like, as assigned.
  • Hospitalists will be expected to supervise any residents, students, fellows, or teams assigned to their areas of responsibility.
  • This will include (but is not limited to) at least two attending months per academic year.
  • Hospitalists are responsible for the evaluation of all new admissions with completion of an admission History and Physical, or completion of the short-form admission note as appropriate (per Salem VAMC Medical Center By-Laws and applicable Medical Center Memorandums, or MCM).
  • Discharge summaries will be completed within twenty-four (24) hours of patient discharge.
  • All charts related to the discharge are to be completed with forty-eight (48) hours of patient release (discharge as applicable).
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See "Additional Information" below for details.
Qualifications
  • To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
  • Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
