$75,000 - $85,000 per year, based on experience.

Job Description

As a Fire Alarm System Estimator at Fortis Fire & Safety Inc., you will be responsible for surveying, estimating, and laying out fire alarm and low voltage projects. You will work closely with the sales team and operations to successfully estimate projects. Your tasks will include utilizing estimating check lists, obtaining current and accurate pricing, crafting a bill of materials, and intelligently estimating labor hours tied to a work break down structure of the project inside our estimating system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take direction and collaborate with the sales team on potential bid opportunities.
  • Review entire architectural drawings for the project, including fire alarm, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, floor plans, and reflected ceiling plans.
  • Identify specific equipment requirements.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess existing conditions prior to or during the estimating process.
  • Lay out devices according to architectural drawings, NFPA requirements, and site conditions using computer-based PDF software (Bluebeam).
  • Calculate estimated labor needs based on existing site conditions, scope of work, device requirements, project schedule, and accurately attribute them to a work breakdown structure in our estimating software.
  • Determine estimate inclusions and exclusions.
  • Collaborate with the operations team on change order needs and develop estimates for change orders on existing projects.
  • Participate in WIP meetings as necessary to understand job cost over and under projections.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the fire alarm industry is required, with estimating and/or field experience preferred.
  • The ability to operate independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must build positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees and management across departments.
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
  • Prioritize tasks in a fast-paced multi-task environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
