Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Cardiac Monitor Technician to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our Emergency Department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Clean and prepare rooms for the next patient's arrival, maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients.
  • Monitor patients placed on cardiac or vital sign monitors, documenting every shift in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and reporting any outlying or changes in patient status to the nurse.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, including providers, nurses, and other staff members, to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Utilize Safe Patient Handling Equipment to minimize the risk of injury to patients and staff.
  • Perform glucose monitoring and specimen collections as per hospital policy and as assigned by the registered nurse.
  • Obtain and record patients' temperatures, pulse rate, respiratory rates, blood pressure, intake and outputs, weights according to department policy, and report unexpected results to the nurse.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedures.
  • Work closely with providers to direct and arrange care of patients, ensuring timely and effective communication.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of the Basic Dysrhythmia course within 90 days of hire or receipt of a passing score on a basic dysrhythmia test in lieu of individuals with monitoring experience.
  • Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Working Environment

The work environment at WVU Medicine is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring the ability to work effectively in a team setting and communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare staff. The successful candidate will be able to tolerate working with and around noxious odors and wear latex or vinyl gloves, with frequent changes and hand washing.

  • Demonstrates competency in the use of Safe Patient Handling Equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technology with Health Care Technology and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and writing skills.
  • Able to work as a cooperative, focused team player, take direction well, and display a positive attitude to work with the patients, nursing staff, and physicians.
  • Able to display good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to keep track of a large number of patients.
