Position Overview
The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is responsible for designing and executing tailored recreational therapy initiatives aimed at fostering social engagement, optimizing leisure activities, and preparing individuals for reintegration into society.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement specialized recreational therapy programs that enhance social interaction and leisure time utilization.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams to ensure cohesive care for clients, working alongside primary clinicians and support staff.
  • Assess the recreational therapy needs of individuals, focusing on daily activities, communication skills, physical fitness, and coping strategies.
  • Create individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and therapeutic goals.
  • Organize and facilitate recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, music, dance, and outdoor excursions.
  • Adapt activities to accommodate clients with varying abilities and cognitive levels.
  • Monitor and document clients' progress, behaviors, and responses to therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to promote active participation in therapeutic activities.
  • Educate clients and their families on the advantages of recreational therapy and offer advice on continuing therapeutic practices beyond scheduled sessions.
  • Stay informed on current trends, research, and best practices in recreational therapy and related fields.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 12 to 36 months of relevant experience as a therapist is required.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is necessary.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written English is essential for effective communication.
  • A full, unrestricted license to practice in the state is mandatory.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
