As a Senior Process Safety Management Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will play a crucial role in the development, execution, and maintenance of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Program. Collaboration with a team of process safety engineers, safety experts, industrial hygienists, and other stakeholders is essential to support and lead various projects aimed at identifying, mitigating, and managing risks at our facilities. A solid grasp of Risk Based Process Safety (RBPS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Risk Management Program (RMP) compliance regulations, or the ability to acquire this knowledge, will be vital for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement and Support PSM Initiatives:
  • Oversee modifications to procedures, equipment, or processes for potential safety implications and necessary mitigations, critical issues, or further evaluations.
  • Collaborate with site EHS, Facility, and Fab Engineers to define and execute process safety solutions and strategies for managing process hazards related to chemicals, tools, and facility systems.
  • Assist in Incident Investigations involving Process Safety.
  • Support the implementation of process safety enhancements to systems and equipment identified by sites and evaluate process safety impacts from new product introductions (NPI).
  • Lead, implement, or engage in the development of OSHA and RBPS PSM program projects and initiatives, as applicable.
Collaborate to Assess and Mitigate Risks:
  • Support engineering teams through process safety audits and thorough reviews of chemical and tool safety for new or modified processes, chemicals, or equipment.
  • Conduct or participate in risk analyses or hazard identifications using industry-standard techniques such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HazOp) and other recognized methodologies.
  • Work with engineering teams to devise and implement solutions for mitigating or controlling identified hazards and risks.
  • Assist transfer teams by completing Safety Release Documents (SRDs), Flammability studies, and other hazard analyses during technology transfers.
Manage Process Safety Metrics and Measurements:
  • Lead hazard review findings and ensure their resolution.
  • Maintain and report on metrics and key performance indicators to monitor the health and progress of the process safety program.
  • Drive the closure of gaps in process safety metrics.
  • Identify and characterize process hazards in processes, equipment, and technologies.
Promote a Safe and Compliant Work Environment:
  • Maintain process safety information management, including tool installation documents, vendor safety bulletins, and other industry process safety updates.
  • Act as a reference point for process and equipment personnel regarding potential safety issues.
  • Collaborate with site teams to foster a safety-first culture during process or equipment maintenance activities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's Degree or equivalent experience in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field. Strong ability to read and interpret schematic drawings or similar technical documents.
  • Proven success in leading projects and collaborating with a multi-functional team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator with the capability to convey complex technical information to a diverse audience.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Commitment to employee health and safety, combined with a high level of integrity.
  • Advanced PC skills, including proficiency in MS Office suite products.
  • Comprehensive understanding of chemistry related to semiconductor manufacturing, particularly concerning safety hazards and risk prevention or mitigation strategies.
  • Strong candidates will possess good knowledge of Risk Based Process Safety Management, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
