Automotive Technician

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Motor Vehicle Mechanic to join our team. As a Motor Vehicle Mechanic, you will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of light, medium, heavy, and specialized automotive equipment, as well as FAV vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and repair government vehicles to ensure they are safe and dependable.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle malfunctions and repair problems.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations.
- Repair and replace defective parts and components, including lighting systems, sirens, wheel bearings, radiators, and heating and air-conditioning systems.
- Utilize on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment to test automotive computer control and emission systems.
- Interact with customers to keep them informed of the status of their vehicles and the repairs needed.
- Perform State vehicle safety and emission inspections on owned vehicles.
- Identify necessary parts, equipment, and supplies needed to complete repairs or preventative checks.
- Estimate cost and labor time for corrective repairs.
- Respond to emergency road calls for disabled vehicles and make minor adjustments or have the vehicle towed for repairs.
- Road test vehicles during and occasionally upon completion of maintenance/repair work.
- Respond to emails and telephone calls.
- Ensure the necessary provision of vehicles and support for customers.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 years minimum experience in the problem diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of light, medium, heavy, and/or specialized automotive equipment, other heavy equipment, and FAV vehicles.
- Knowledgeable of gasoline and diesel vehicle preventive maintenance programs.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to interact at all levels of management and with subordinate team.
- Excellent record of safety operations and working knowledge of safety standards for motor vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.
- Considerable knowledge of the operating systems used in motor vehicles and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the practices and tools used in the maintenance and diagnostics of vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and related malfunctions.
- Ability to read technical manuals, references, and specifications.
- Ability to write routine correspondences, maintenance logs, and order forms.
- Ability to operate a forklift, power tools, wrenches, diagnostic equipment, and jacks.
- Must have a valid and current state driver's license.
- Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals.
- Must be able to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to manipulate and use hand tools and hydraulic equipment.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
The work environment is a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in the shop area.
The employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and smell. The employee frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
