Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Admitting Rep to join our team at Northwell Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for registering patients, providing information on hospital rules and regulations, and performing various clerical duties related to patient admission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Admit patients to the facility, conduct interviews to obtain demographic and insurance data, and obtain signatures on medical, legal, and financial forms.
  • Provide interpretation of hospital policies and regulations to patients, including visiting hours, patient rights, and services.
  • Communicate and collect account balances, deductibles, and co-payment responsibilities, and reconcile at day end.
  • Enter patient information into the hospital information system, verify accuracy, and re-verify demographics and insurance for recurring patients.
  • Verify insurance, as needed, for successful billing, and perform financial assessments of patients who are uninsured.
  • Provide patients with direction or assistance to the appropriate department or assigned room, when necessary.
  • Assign online account numbers, collaborate with Medical Records to identify if patients were previously admitted, and contact scheduled patients to verify time of admission.
  • Maintain logs, complete various forms related to death and/or fetal certificates, and answer phones and maintain files.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Prior customer service experience, preferred.
  • Data entry skills (80 keystrokes per minute), required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, hospital admission, insurance/billing procedures, and Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs), preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, required.
