Tax Examination Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Examination Technician to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As a Tax Examination Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the examination of tax returns and investigating alleged tax fraud.

• Provide detailed paraprofessional support duties related to the examination of tax returns and/or the investigation of alleged tax fraud performed by Internal Revenue Agents.
• Locate, search, and document specific information from records of individuals, corporations, banks, brokerage firms, etc.
• Prepare, verify, and assemble work papers, schedules, and exhibits, and related documentation that reflect the presentation of facts and the analysis performed.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.
• Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
• Complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency.
• Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Federal government.

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

• SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-06 - You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service.
• SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07 - You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service.
