Role Summary:

Provides expert nursing care in the surgical environment to patients undergoing operations or other invasive treatments.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Executes scrub responsibilities including the selection and management of instruments and materials utilized during procedures.
  • Conducts circulating duties such as monitoring, documenting, and communicating patient status while overseeing overall nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
  • Directly supports the operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing, and patient positioning.
  • Prepares surgical suites and instruments for operational use.
  • Applies evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing, ensuring care is tailored to the patient's age-specific and clinical needs as outlined in the department's Scope of Service.
  • As an SSM Health nurse, I will uphold the professional nursing standards established in the professional practice model. I will utilize the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide my responses to the evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and communities.
  • Maintains a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensure

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • No prior experience necessary

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Continuous verbal communication to convey information effectively.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of items weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry.
