Position OverviewRole Summary:

The Radiologic Technology Intern is responsible for delivering exceptional care to patients requiring imaging services by generating high-quality radiographic images, including but not limited to chest, extremities, and spinal views, under the supervision of qualified radiology professionals. This role is essential in maintaining an efficient workflow within the imaging department, assisting technologists during various procedures, and performing essential clerical tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit proficiency in the core competencies of the organization, demonstrating leadership qualities in self-management and teamwork.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, imaging techniques, and positioning for approved radiographic procedures.
  • Adhere to universal safety protocols and infection control measures, ensuring the proper disposal of materials exposed to bodily fluids and maintaining equipment cleanliness.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification by consistently verifying patient details prior to imaging procedures.
  • Follow departmental protocols for patient transport, ensuring safety and privacy throughout the process.
  • Introduce oneself to patients, clearly explaining procedures and addressing any concerns with respect and empathy.
  • Prepare and process images for review, ensuring timely submission to the imaging system.
  • Maintain a steady workflow to optimize departmental operations and enhance patient care quality.
  • Document all imaging procedures accurately in the relevant systems immediately after completion.
  • Conduct patient assessments before, during, and after imaging procedures to monitor their condition.
  • Complete all assigned tasks by the end of the shift, ensuring readiness for subsequent procedures.
  • Assist radiology technologists with patient handling and preparation for various imaging exams.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding any operational issues.
  • Comply with all regulatory standards and report any discrepancies to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Utilize hospital resources responsibly, adhering to guidelines for equipment use and waste reduction.
  • Follow organizational policies regarding attendance, professional appearance, safety protocols, and training requirements.
  • Complete all mandatory educational assignments in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Non-Certified Radiology Technician certification from the Texas Medical Board is required.
