Key Responsibilities of the Recreational Activities Coordinator:
- Assist in the design, organization, and execution of a diverse range of activities tailored to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.
- Facilitate and promote activities both within the facility and in the community, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
- Coordinate assistance for residents during activities and events as needed.
- Provide in-room activities for residents who are unable to participate in group events.
- Develop a comprehensive calendar of activities that caters to a variety of interests and abilities.
- Maintain compliance with scheduling and documentation standards as per regulatory requirements.
- Engage with community organizations to enrich facility activities and events.
- Support the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives for the Activities Department.
- Keep detailed records of activity participation and progress towards care plan goals.
- Contribute to resident care planning by assessing the activity needs of residents based on medical evaluations.
- Create and distribute a monthly events calendar, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
- Document and maintain a scrapbook of activities and events held throughout the year.
- Develop and oversee a volunteer program, encouraging participation from residents, families, and community members.
- Train volunteers and students in recreational therapy techniques.
- Prepare progress notes for medical staff, documenting residents' responses and progress.
- Ensure all activity-related records are maintained in accordance with regulations.
- Assist residents in organizing and maintaining an active Resident Council, ensuring regular meetings and addressing feedback promptly.
Qualifications for the Recreational Activities Coordinator:
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Six months to one year of experience in activity-related roles.
- Ability to take on a leadership role in the absence of the Activity Director.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high level of enthusiasm.
- Experience in managing volunteers and developing volunteer programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and work collaboratively within a team.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and sound decision-making skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and external partners.
