Key Responsibilities of the Recreational Activities Coordinator:

  • Assist in the design, organization, and execution of a diverse range of activities tailored to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.
  • Facilitate and promote activities both within the facility and in the community, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
  • Coordinate assistance for residents during activities and events as needed.
  • Provide in-room activities for residents who are unable to participate in group events.
  • Develop a comprehensive calendar of activities that caters to a variety of interests and abilities.
  • Maintain compliance with scheduling and documentation standards as per regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with community organizations to enrich facility activities and events.
  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives for the Activities Department.
  • Keep detailed records of activity participation and progress towards care plan goals.
  • Contribute to resident care planning by assessing the activity needs of residents based on medical evaluations.
  • Create and distribute a monthly events calendar, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
  • Document and maintain a scrapbook of activities and events held throughout the year.
  • Develop and oversee a volunteer program, encouraging participation from residents, families, and community members.
  • Train volunteers and students in recreational therapy techniques.
  • Prepare progress notes for medical staff, documenting residents' responses and progress.
  • Ensure all activity-related records are maintained in accordance with regulations.
  • Assist residents in organizing and maintaining an active Resident Council, ensuring regular meetings and addressing feedback promptly.

Qualifications for the Recreational Activities Coordinator:

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Six months to one year of experience in activity-related roles.
  • Ability to take on a leadership role in the absence of the Activity Director.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high level of enthusiasm.
  • Experience in managing volunteers and developing volunteer programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and sound decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and external partners.
