GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Clerk IV is responsible for performing essential receptionist and clerical tasks within the department. This role serves as the primary communication hub for departmental processes.
Organizes and maintains documentation related to patient care and medical record supplies, while also distributing correspondence and information to staff, physicians, and patients.
Accurately transcribes patient and unit information both manually and digitally.Facilitates both written and verbal communication to the appropriate personnel.
Handles copying tasks for staff and physicians. Answers incoming calls and manages the call system.
Ensures the timely, accurate, and clear transfer of communications, including physician orders.
Fosters and maintains a harmonious, customer-friendly environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Skills Required:
- Must successfully complete the Medical Terminology Exam if lacking prior Unit Clerk experience.
- High school diploma with the ability to read, write, and understand medical terminology, along with a commitment to effective communication.
- Prior experience in a clerical or receptionist role is preferred; experience in a healthcare setting or completion of a training program is advantageous.
- Capable of handling detailed tasks, working under pressure, and interacting effectively with patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors.
- Proficient in verbal communication, especially over the telephone.
- Possesses computer skills following appropriate training on the hospital's information system.
- Meets pre-employment screening and physical examination requirements.
- Able to work independently in high-stress situations and manage multiple interruptions calmly and positively.
As applicable, the individual is trained and competent in addressing the special needs and behaviors relevant to the age of the patients receiving care.
