Job Overview

Role Summary

The Microbiology Laboratory Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations, which include:

  • Equipment Management: Responsible for the preparation and sterilization of laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Media Preparation: Prepare various media essential for microbiological testing.
  • Laboratory Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory environment.
  • Sample Preparation: Prepare specialty test samples and manage the ordering of necessary supplies.

Testing Responsibilities

The specialist will conduct a variety of testing procedures, including:

  • Self-contained sterility testing.
  • Bioburden estimation for devices, components, and solutions.
  • Endotoxin testing for devices, components, and solutions.
  • Validation of product testing procedures.

Environmental Monitoring

Key tasks include:

  • Certification testing of cleanrooms, which involves particle counts, air velocity measurements, pressure differentials, microbial counts, and air filter leak tests.

Documentation and Compliance

Maintain accurate records of laboratory procedures and results, ensuring proper archiving of all lab documentation. Additionally, the specialist will:

  • Modify controlled documents through the Change Order process.
  • Troubleshoot microbiological testing procedures and cleanroom environmental issues.
  • Support company initiatives in alignment with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
  • Adhere to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and other relevant compliance requirements.
