Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee

**Job Summary**
New York State is seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as Highway Maintenance Workers. As a Highway Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort, involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Respond to emergency callouts within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions.
- Perform routine manual tasks, including operating plows during winter operations.
- Obtain equipment certifications, including heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.
**Requirements**
- Must be 18 years old.
- Pass a pre-employment physical/medical examination and drug test.
- Hold a Class D Driver License for Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1, or a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction for Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2.
- For Highway Maintenance Worker 1, must have satisfactorily completed the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes.
**Additional Requirements**
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification within the first two weeks of employment.
- May be eligible to bypass the pre-employment physical if holding a valid CDL A or B and a current CDL Medical Certificate.
**Working Conditions**
Individuals selected must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, responding to emergency callouts and performing manual tasks in various weather conditions.
