We are in search of a dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to provide essential support to individuals facing challenges with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. The successful candidate will engage in both individual and group therapy, create comprehensive treatment plans, and track client progress. Ideal candidates will possess experience in substance use treatment, a genuine passion for assisting others, and a commitment to delivering empathetic care.
New U Therapy Center & Family Services is excited to introduce an IOP/PHP program for substance use and co-occurring disorders. We are a growing mental health clinic featuring a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatry and psychotherapy, specializing in innovative therapy methods. Our outpatient services cater to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions for clients dealing with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Formulate treatment plans and provide referrals to suitable services.
- Conduct client assessments to identify needs and objectives.
- Educate clients on the dangers of substance use and the advantages of recovery.
- Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as necessary.
- Maintain precise records of client progress and treatment strategies.
- Provide crisis intervention when required.
- Comply with CARF and DHCS standards and requirements.
Qualifications: The following qualifications are essential for fulfilling the core responsibilities of this role. Modifications may be made based on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Bilingual skills are a plus but not mandatory.
- A minimum of an Associate's degree; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in substance use disorder treatment.
- Certification in Substance Use Disorder Counseling (CADC I, CADC II, CADC III, LAADC, SUDCC I, SUDCC II, SUDCC III, SUDCC IV, or equivalent).
- Ability to read and comprehend the English language.
- Proficient in documenting daily activities in an electronic medical records system.
- Ability to follow directions and adhere to policies.
- Physical capability to stand, stoop, bend, squat, and reach for job-related tasks, including handling materials and filing. Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds.
- Skilled in crisis intervention and management, with knowledge of behavior management techniques and verbal de-escalation processes.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records and clinical documentation.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and CFR 42 part 2.
- Experience in scheduling, care coordination, case management, and administrative tasks as assigned.
Physical demands include standing and walking for most of the workday and performing other job duties, which may require occasional use of a stool or small ladder. Specific qualifications may vary based on the assignment.
