Landscape Maintenance Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep of the college's outdoor spaces and supporting various events through a range of tasks:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  1. Adhere to health and safety protocols, including the use of protective equipment.
  2. Mow lawns and perform trimming and edging around pathways, flower beds, and structures.
  3. Shape and enhance the growth of shrubs and trees through pruning and removal of damaged foliage.
  4. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees. Collect and dispose of leaves and debris.
  5. Maintain cleanliness of grounds, including walkways, parking areas, building entrances, and athletic fields.
  6. Clear litter, debris, and waste materials.
  7. Remove snow from pathways, driveways, entrances, and hydrants.
  8. Distribute ice-melt on public pathways to prevent ice accumulation.
  9. Plant and water grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  10. Assist in the maintenance of fences, gates, walls, and pathways.
  11. Clear drainage systems, including ditches and culverts.
  12. Utilize a variety of hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles.
  13. Move furniture and other materials as required.
  14. Provide updates on work status, including time and materials used.
  15. Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques and practices.
  16. Communicate effectively and respectfully with supervisors, clients, and colleagues.
  17. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  18. Deliver high-quality customer service.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES when assigned as a refuse-recycling driver:

  1. Operate various refuse and recycling collection equipment.
  2. Ensure cleanliness at collection points and surrounding areas.
  3. Transport recyclable materials to designated disposal sites.
  4. Maintain equipment cleanliness and operational logs.
  5. Prepare logs and records for equipment maintenance and service requests.
  6. Provide feedback on campus recycling initiatives to supervisors.
  7. Exhibit a commitment to learning and improving service quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; relevant experience or training preferred.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Ability to read and interpret safety regulations and operational manuals. Capable of writing reports and communicating effectively.

MATH SKILLS

Proficient in basic arithmetic operations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions and solve practical problems.

CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Driver's License and any required state licenses for pesticide application.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 80 pounds. Vision abilities must include close and distance vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and mechanical equipment. The noise level is typically moderate.

COMPENSATION: $19.77 per hour.
