POSITION OVERVIEW
The Surgical Instrumentation Specialist operates autonomously to sanitize, decontaminate, and assemble all reusable surgical tools and patient care apparatus. This role is essential in preparing equipment for sterilization and managing cleaning and sterilizing machinery in accordance with established protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and oversee sterilized instruments, ensuring readiness for surgical procedures.
  • Manage inventory levels of supplies, restocking as necessary to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Conduct periodic physical inventory checks as directed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree is preferred.

CERTIFICATION:
Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBSPD) is required within a specified timeframe post-hire. Technicians are responsible for the upkeep of their certification.

EXPERIENCE:
Preferred candidates will have a minimum of one year of experience in Sterile Processing, Materials Management, Surgical Scrub Technician roles, or related healthcare fields. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the ability to fulfill department-specific competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Exhibits core behavioral competencies as detailed in the same tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position entails potential exposure to various hazards typical of a healthcare setting, including infectious diseases and hazardous materials. The role requires significant physical activity, including extensive walking, standing, and lifting. Candidates must be capable of pushing and pulling weights exceeding 90 pounds with assistance, as well as lifting weights ranging from 30 to 90 pounds regularly.

REPORTING STRUCTURE
This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Sterile Processing and receives guidance from the Lead Processing Technician. The responsibilities outlined above reflect the essential functions of the role and are not exhaustive of all tasks that may be required.
