About This Role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Motor Equipment Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of motor equipment and performing manual tasks in connection with these operations. You will play a vital part in ensuring the smooth running of our daily activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate trucks and other automotive equipment for various purposes, including snow removal, refuse collection, transportation of materials, and more.
- Perform preventative maintenance on department equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Engage in manual labor tasks such as loading trucks, digging ditches, cleaning culverts, mowing, trimming, and other related duties.
- Potentially supervise a small team of laborers for specific tasks.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of operating trucks and other automotive equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
- Dependability, punctuality, and the ability to respond promptly to emergencies.
- Good physical condition and stamina for demanding tasks.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid New York State Driver's License at the time of application.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of appointment.
- Maintain a clean driving record throughout employment.
Additional Requirements
- Successfully pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
- Pass a skills test (road test).
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations.
