Role Overview: Insulator/Metal-man
The Insulator/Metal-man is responsible for the application, removal, and repair of insulating materials on various surfaces or structures, including air ducts, pipes (both hot and cold), storage tanks, boilers, and buildings. This role is crucial for controlling noise levels and maintaining temperature regulation. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints to determine the necessary insulation materials.
- Work confidently at heights.
- Apply adhesives or attach metal applications to insulation materials.
- Assess and select insulation materials (in sheet, tubular, or roll form) such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, and urethane based on their thermal retention properties, location, surface characteristics, shape, and intended use.
- Measure and cut insulation materials to specified dimensions using tools such as handsaws, knives, or scissors.
- Fit, wrap, or attach insulation materials to structures according to blueprint specifications.
- Secure insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, or tape, using tools like staple guns, trowels, paintbrushes, or caulking guns, depending on the insulation type and structure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands outlined here represent the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands for manipulation, and reach with arms. Frequent activities include standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and may need to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications:
Education: No minimum educational requirements.
Certifications/Licenses: TWIC CARD, NCCER, and valid driver's license.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience at the Journeyman level.
