Research Scientist

The Research Engineer will work independently or with some input to implement specific assignments made by the Manager, Refractory Technology Group or Director of Research related to the development of improved refractory products, including the initiation of alternate solutions or new product ideas.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct laboratory research to develop new products or optimize existing ones for market or industry purposes, and bring assignments to a rapid conclusion with adequate documentation and reports.
- Plan and supervise plant work orders, evaluating products to ensure objectives are met, after approval from the Manager, Refractory Technology Group.
- Provide technical information to Sales and Marketing Departments, meeting with customers as required to promote and support development work.
- Investigate and solve Operating Department problems of a technical nature, as directed by the Director of Research or Manager, Refractory Technology Group.
- Assist Quality Assurance Group in investigating complaints, reporting causes, and recommending corrective measures to prevent re-occurrences, as directed by the Director of Research or Manager, Refractory Technology Group.
- Evaluate competitive products, review technical and trade publications, and attend professional society technical meetings to stay current with technical developments.
- Provide technical support to the Purchasing Department in evaluating raw materials, meeting with suppliers, developing specifications, and managing raw material development.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of development processes, material science/chemistry, forming and firing processes, refractory materials, and refractory applications.
- Motivation and ingenuity.
Preferred qualifications include zero to eight years of experience in development or process engineering, including ceramics, materials science, or related research.
