About the Role

As the Renewable Energy Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating new construction projects for renewable energy power plants, focusing on BESS/Solar/Hybrid/Substation projects. You will join a dedicated team delivering Digital/Automation solutions to our customers.

Your primary role will involve specific projects assigned, providing support throughout the life cycle, from estimation to design/engineering, commissioning, and close-out. After-sales support related to warranty claims or contracted maintenance services will also be part of your responsibilities.

You will lead the delivery of Sungrid products as well as 3rd party systems, ensuring customer satisfaction and seamless coordination with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineering of automation systems (instrumentation, control, Industrial networks, automation logic, SCADA systems) for BESS systems and hybrid plants.

  • Produce automation engineering deliverables (automation logic, control logic diagrams, automation architecture, SCADA point lists, data flows).

  • Perform hands-on system configuration and troubleshooting for automation/instrumentation devices, SCADA applications & infrastructure, and Industrial communications & networks.

  • Develop automation system testing and commissioning steps.

  • Lead the execution of automation systems commissioning (FAT, cold/hot commissioning, SAT) with remote and on-site activities.

  • Coordinate activities with internal stakeholders and vendor/contractors.

  • Track automation systems commissioning issues and resolve them.

  • Evaluate cybersecurity best practices and verify their application at project completion.

  • Ensure compliance with project hand-off requirements, customer protocols, grid operator guidelines, TSO/ISO market regulations, and applicable legislation.

  • Collect and produce commissioning documentation for Quality Control.

  • Deliver automation solutions training.

  • Support the Operations and Maintenance team during the transition phase.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant Automation/control systems work experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the power/utility/renewables industry.

  • Advanced proficiency in Automation system configuration (PLC, SEL RTAC, Metering, IEDs, etc.).

  • Advanced proficiency in industrial communications (Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA, MQTT, etc.).

  • Advanced proficiency in SCADA platforms (SEL HMI, Ignition, etc.).

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and rigorous problem-solving approach.

  • Ability to create and review technical documentation (commissioning reports, troubleshooting guides, incident reports).

  • Familiarity with IT hardware and middleware for SCADA systems and OT applications (Linux/Windows OS, SQL DB, Server hardware).

  • Proficiency in Industrial networks communications and systems design & configuration (switches, Eth/FO converters, packet analysis tools, etc.).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

  • Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and work off-hours as needed.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

  • Able to clear a 7-year background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with power plant integration in major North American markets (ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO, NE-ISO, IESO, etc.).

  • Experience with BESS Control systems operation/design/implementation.

  • Experience with Microgrid control systems.

  • Basic programming skills (C, C++, Java, REST APIs, etc.).

  • Networking certification/training.

Estimated Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
