Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Intern Pharmacist to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As an Intern Pharmacist, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to dispense, compound, procure, store, and distribute pharmacy products. You will also consult with patients and medical personnel regarding medication therapy and provide pharmaceutical care for hospitalized or ambulatory patients as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient data and interpret relevant information to identify patient requirements and provide pharmaceutical care in accordance with department policy.
  • Dispense, compound, procure, store, package, and distribute pharmacy products according to laws, regulations, standards, established policies, and procedures.
  • Interview patients to obtain information regarding medication use, medication allergies, and sensitivities, and advise patients on medication directions, storage requirements, and precautions.
  • Substitute for pharmacy personnel as necessary and evaluate and resolve potential medication therapy problems.
  • Confer with medical personnel concerning pharmaceutical care and treatment of patients, and suggest changes in medication therapy as appropriate.
  • Participate in assigned education and training programs, conduct educational programs for pharmacy and medical personnel, and participate in quality management programs.
  • Evaluate and manage the medication therapy of hospitalized or ambulatory patients to assure optimum therapeutic results and cost-effective prescribing.
  • Make recommendations to management regarding systems or operational improvements to enhance services provided by the department.
  • Check equipment used to prepare and dispense medications for proper functioning and report deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and efficient work environment and exemplify the pharmacy's mission and the organization's vision by contributing to the health and satisfaction of members.
Requirements
  • Must be licensed as an Intern Pharmacist by the State of California.
  • Excellent verbal and written English-speaking communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws, regulations, and standards regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services.
  • Ability to extract pertinent information from the patient or other sources and relate it to the patient's medical management plan.
  • Ability to learn and operate pharmacy computer systems and other equipment.
  • Ability to type medication labels or type/possess keyboard skill 30 WPM.
  • Requires standing for long periods of time, reading fine print, communicating with co-workers and patients, lifting/transporting 1-50lbs, light to moderate carrying, pulling, pushing, walking, frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.

Must be willing to work at multiple locations within the Riverside/Coachella Valley.
