The Surgical Technologist Level II plays a vital role in the perioperative phase of patient care, ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Key Responsibilities- Assists the surgical team in preparing the operating room environment, ensuring all necessary equipment and instrumentation are available and functioning properly.
- Prepares the operative site by aseptically cleaning and patient clipping, as needed.
- Prepares and maintains the instrument table(s) in an organized and comprehensive manner to avoid damage to instrumentation and ensure accurate counts.
- Identifies and rectifies any discrepancies in instrument trays or equipment, preventing delays or injuries.
- Ensures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during procedures.
- Performs surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team staff, passing sterile supplies and equipment as needed.
- Assists with draping and positioning the patient, ensuring optimal visibility and access for the surgical team.
- Receives and verifies surgical specimens, following established protocols.
- Assists with the placement of surgical dressings and the disassembly of instrumentation after procedures.
- Cleans and prepares soiled instrumentation for transportation to the decontamination area.
- Maintains inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program.
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
