Position Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified Flight Surgeon to contribute to our mission at Wright Patterson AFB. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting the USAFSAM Aerospace Medicine Clinical Sciences Division, specifically within the Aerospace Medicine Branch (FECA). The selected individual will engage in tasks designed to meet the requirements of this contract, establishing a professional relationship with the Government while performing essential healthcare services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough in-person aeromedical evaluations and review medical records for USAF aircrew with disqualifying medical conditions, providing risk assessments and recommendations to enhance aircrew health and operational effectiveness.
  • Function as an independent expert within the Aerospace Medicine Branch and Aeromedical Consultation Service (ACS), participating in clinical discussions and collaborating with fellow specialists.
  • Act as a consultant in aeromedical issues as necessary.
  • Evaluate and apply medical standards during physical examinations, utilizing resources such as the Medical Standards Directory (MSD) and relevant aeromedical guidelines.
  • Summarize clinical findings from ACS consultations and evaluations for aircrew and special duty personnel in both written and verbal formats.
  • Deliver instructional sessions via presentations to flight surgeons and other professionals, focusing on outcomes from ACS case reviews and related research.
  • Develop comprehensive educational materials and curricula based on research findings and presentations, ensuring high-quality content delivery.
  • Design and implement scientific investigation plans using relevant data from FECA research, presenting findings at various conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to review scientific literature and engage in discussions to support teaching and research initiatives.
  • Assist in the preparation of scientific papers, presentations, and technical reports related to teaching and research projects.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations concerning teaching and research activities.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on project management and complex case reviews.
  • Work closely with professional staff to ensure timely execution of ACS evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Must be a fully licensed physician with a specialization in aerospace medicine or preventive/occupational medicine, possessing at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in evaluating USAF personnel or other DOD aviation staff for a minimum of one year is required.
  • Active-duty flight surgeon experience should include a thorough understanding of Air Force medical standards for conducting evaluations and certifications.
  • Former military flight surgeons must meet specific training requirements to maintain privileges in flight medicine.
