We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Intellectual Property Counsel to join our team at Neurocrine Biosciences. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing our intellectual property strategy, providing strategic guidance to internal clients and teams, and overseeing the patent and intellectual property function within the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Intellectual Property Strategy: Develop high-level intellectual property strategy, identify inventions, and manage patent drafting and prosecution relating to small molecule drugs.
- Provide Legal Advice: Provide legal advice to assigned business partners on a broad range of topics involving intellectual property, including patent preparation, prosecution, and enforcement.
- Manage Patent and IP-Related Matters: Manage patent and IP-related contentious matters, including freedom-to-operate analysis, litigation risk management, and patent term extension practice for the US and SPC practice for Europe.
- Lead and Develop Team: Provide leadership, personnel management, mentoring, and coaching to attorneys, patent agents, paralegals, and/or support staff.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with discovery, development, and business groups within the company to identify opportunities for expanding the Company's intellectual property position.
- Develop and Implement Internal Processes: Implement internal processes, procedures, and training centered on intellectual property identification and protection.
- Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate (JD) degree and 12+ years of practice as an attorney in a well-regarded law firm and in-house pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Technical Expertise: A broad range of patent-related legal expertise, including patent preparation, prosecution, and enforcement, as well as experience with Orange Book and Patent Term Extension practice for the US and SPC practice for Europe.
- Leadership and Communication Skills: Proven analytical capacity, superior legal and business judgment, ability to recognize business impact of legal advice, and excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
- Competitive Compensation: An annual base salary of $253,300.00-$366,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Bonus and Equity Incentives: Eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program and an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary.
- Benefits: A comprehensive benefits package, including a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday, and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits.
