Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Recreation Supervisor instructs or trains clients and/or students in a specific area of assignment as part of an evidence-based recreation program that includes an organized agenda of practical and workforce readiness instruction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement evidence-based recreation programs for youth.
  • Conduct recreational activities with the goals of teaching decision making, improving physical fitness, and offering leisure options.
  • Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet the needs of diverse youth populations.
  • Supervise and train part-time recreational workers.
  • Estimate materials needed for inventory and specific areas, including cost.
  • Plan and coordinate comprehensive recreation programs for facility populations.
  • Maintain daily records of service delivery in recreation and leisure log books.
  • Identify staff development and training needs and ensure that training is provided.
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of Recreation Workers.
  • Ensure compliance with DJJ policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in area of assignment from an accredited college or university.
  • Vocational/Technical degree in area of assignment from an accredited college and one year of experience in the area of assignment.
  • One year of experience required at the lower level Practical Instructor 1 (EDT010) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the related field.
  • Experience in conducting structured recreational activities with the goals of teaching decision making and improving physical fitness.
  • Experience delivering and facilitating structured leisure activities with the goals of teaching social skills.
  • Experience working with youth in a secure facility.
  • Experience supervising lower-level staff.
  • Experience managing a recreation and leisure program for youth.
