About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our team at HNTB. As a key member of our Technical Group, you will be responsible for assisting assigned departments by performing engineering-related tasks, including research, development, calculations, design, and delivery on assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify the accuracy of drawings and ensure compatibility of work across disciplines.
  • Calculate design data, prepare layouts, detailed specifications, estimates, reports, and other engineering-related tasks.
  • Assist in preparing engineering studies and evaluations involved in the development of projects from initial concept to the design stage.
  • Attend project and pre-construction meetings to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.
  • Resolve technical design problems, including performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and data analysis.
  • Perform general administrative assistance, including maintaining complex project plans and leading teams of junior technicians and engineers.
  • Calculate quantities and perform engineering-related computations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree in Drafting or a related field, or 8 years of relevant experience.
  • In lieu of education, 10 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively and participate in working relationships with clients and sub-contractors.
  • Ability to work from minimal design sketches and produce significantly complete plans with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in CADD Design software, including Power Inroads, Power Geopak, Microstation, and Connect Open Bridge Modeler.
  • Proficiency with the terminology of bridge design and drafting, with bridge and/or railroad detailing practices, including rebar and quantity calculations.
  • Ability to express ideas and questions clearly when discussing design with the team.
