Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Interventional Radiologic Technologist to join our team at Northwestern Medicine. As a key member of our interventional cardiology team, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our department.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and scrub-in to the sterile field to directly assist physicians performing diagnostic or interventional procedures, maintaining strict adherence to principles of asepsis.
  • Assess individual patients to determine appropriate procedure protocols and methods of application for optimal imaging during specific procedural types.
  • Employ imaging systems and accessory devices appropriately to achieve generation of quality diagnostic clinical data and procedural outcomes.
  • Perform imaging procedures in accordance with radiation safety practices as determined by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to limit radiation exposure to patients, self, and other healthcare team members.
  • Position and drape patients to facilitate optimal arterial or venous access for individual procedure types, considering patient privacy and comfort.
  • Review and evaluate resultant clinical data or imaging for comparison with clinical standards, taking corrective action as needed to achieve and maintain standards.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and equipment, maintaining and cleaning work areas and equipment per hospital standards.
  • Perform intra-procedural clinical documentation via integrated hemodynamic systems and follow through with appropriate entries related to procedural and/or supply charges.
  • Assist with lifting, moving, positioning, and transporting patients to and from procedure tables or rooms to other care areas.
  • Complete the filing and post-processing of images.
  • Monitor stock and specialized inventory to anticipate needs and availability for specific case types, practicing rotation of dated items and maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
  • Take action to independently report incidents of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment disrepair to supervisory and/or biomedical/service personnel as soon as possible.
  • Assist in updating and developing procedure manuals for angiography, tomography, and other special radiographic procedures.
  • Assist with coordination of procedural scheduling as needed.
  • Be able to precept or assist with department orientation of new staff members.
  • Be available for on-call coverage for emergent procedures and respond to be on duty within 30 minutes or less for cardiac procedures and 1 hour or less for Interventional Radiology procedures.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Applied Sciences
  • ARRT Certification
  • IEMA Licensure
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
  • Must be fully knowledgeable in cardiovascular procedural routines and understand the technologist's role performing the following: PTCA (coronary angioplasty), Coronary Stenting, Intra-Aortic Balloon placement, Temporary and Permanent Pacemaker insertion, Atherectomy, Intra-vascular Ultrasound (IVUS), Thrombectomy (use of Pronto device), FFR/Pressure Wire, and Management of Arterial and Venous Sheaths.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree
  • Over 1 year of experience in a similar role within an active interventional cardiac cath, IR, EP lab.
