Please note that this position is not eligible for benefits and is limited to 29 hours per week.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the USDA Livestock Grading Certification within six months of hire.

Job Responsibilities / Key Functions:
The (Part-Time) Market News Reporter is tasked with the collection and dissemination of market pricing information at designated livestock auction markets on a weekly basis.
·Acquire knowledge of USDA Grading Standards and Guidelines to compile market data including price, USDA grade, class, weight, and market trends for cattle and goats sold at assigned markets weekly.
·Assess cattle according to specific USDA standards and guidelines.
·Compile and analyze market data into written reports; upload market information to USDA using their online platform.
·Input reports into the official USDA database via a provided computer.
·Attend auction markets in the assigned territory 2 – 3 days per week according to the market schedule. Must arrive an hour before the sale begins and remain until all livestock is sold.
·Mileage reimbursement is available for travel from home to assigned livestock markets and back.
Additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
·Familiarity with the livestock industry and related management practices.
·Understanding of various livestock species.
·Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring timely and accurate interactions with peers, management, and industry stakeholders.
·Proficient in the use of computers and smartphones.
·Competent in Microsoft Office Suite.
·Reliable transportation is required.
·A valid driver's license is necessary.
·Ability to endure extended periods of sitting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution OR a high school diploma or GED AND one year of relevant experience OR two years of college, including 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.
NOTE: The Georgia Department of Agriculture conducts background checks on all final candidates. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results from employment verification, background checks, and motor vehicle reports.
