Position Overview & Responsibilities
Position Overview:
This role involves delivering fundamental nursing care to residents at the Kansas Veterans' Home (KVH), a respected establishment where Veterans and their eligible family members find a supportive community. Each unit, or 'neighborhood,' accommodates a maximum of 26 residents.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Medication and Treatment Administration: Administer medications and maintain accurate documentation; provide and document treatments; monitor and report any changes in residents' health status; deliver care, monitoring, and first aid as necessary.
- Resident Advocacy: Identify, assess, and respond to changes in residents' health; monitor responses to medications and treatments; assist with sick calls, physician visits, admissions, and discharges; document resident activities and progress; escort residents to appointments; act as an advocate for residents.
- Resident Care Planning: Collaborate with the RN Supervisor to coordinate the resident care plan; participate in care plan meetings.
- Assist in the training and orientation of LPN and CMA/CNA staff members.
- Serve as the Nurse in Charge of a neighborhood during shifts.
- Assign daily tasks to team members as needed, ensuring efficiency and completion.
- Regular and predictable attendance is a critical function of this position.

Qualifications
- Licensing & Certification: Must hold a valid license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Kansas.
- Minimum Qualifications: At least six (6) months of experience in practical nursing; must not have any criminal convictions that would disqualify employment with the Kansas Veterans Home.
- Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of experience in nursing; six (6) months of experience with a geriatric population; strong written and verbal communication skills; a compassionate and supportive attitude towards patients; a positive work history in the healthcare field.
- Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must successfully complete a drug screening within 24 hours of receiving a job offer; obtain a Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate; pass a criminal background check.
