To excel in this role, you must demonstrate accountability and confidence. Your communication skills will be vital in discussions with physicians, consultants, and family members. You should be adept at navigating challenging conversations, as you will oversee both the performance of your team and the operational success of your unit. A robust knowledge of inpatient and outpatient nursing, nursing administration, relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards is essential. Additionally, strong project management, strategic planning, and change management skills are required, along with a commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and respect for all individuals.
This role is integral to the Mission and Vision of CommonSpirit Health, providing oversight for daily departmental operations and team management. You will support the planning, organization, and leadership of resources while also contributing as an active member of the department. Your participation in implementing CommonSpirit Health/Midwest Division Strategic Initiatives will be crucial. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and HR to manage the hiring, training, and performance evaluation processes for nursing staff.
- Assign daily tasks and oversee the functional performance of team members.
- Assess and allocate staffing requirements to meet patient and departmental needs, ensuring optimal coverage.
- Manage team performance through goal setting, feedback, and skill development, addressing any performance issues in collaboration with HR.
- Ensure high-quality patient care by reviewing incident reports and implementing safety improvements. Develop educational opportunities to enhance nursing skills and competencies.
- Oversee patient care delivery to enhance satisfaction and minimize risks, acting as an advocate for patients and families.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records and care plans, utilizing technology effectively.
- Address patient and staff concerns promptly to maintain quality care standards.
- Serve as a technology expert, assisting in the orientation and training of new staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
- An Associate's degree in Nursing with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with no prior experience.
- Valid nursing license in the state, along with certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS.
- A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
