As a Construction Defect Large Loss Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for handling and resolving complex, highly specialized, and high exposure primary and excess construction defect claims through investigation, evaluation, and disposition. This may require overseeing and monitoring underlying aggregates and primary files to ensure proper reporting of potential exposures to XL policies.

You will handle a mix of claims involving admitted and non-admitted policies, making appropriate recommendations to management on coverage and settlement. You will be proactive about managing and collecting information, analyzing data, ensuring reserve adequacy, mitigating AXA XL's risk/loss exposure, managing litigation, and formulating effective disposition strategies on all reported losses.

This role involves performing complex work under limited supervision, exercising independent judgment and decision-making in accordance with specified policies and guidelines. We expect you to possess a high level of procedural and technical knowledge developed through extensive experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Technical claims management
  • Evaluation of applicable AXA XL coverage and drafting of coverage position letters without outside counsel assistance
  • Effectuation of appropriate risk transfer
  • Timely and adequate reserving and proper disposition of high-exposure, complex claims
  • Conducting loss investigations on assigned claims and determining recoveries within agreed time and budget constraints
  • Technical oversight of Third-Party Administrators
  • Maintaining accountability for assigned claims until settlement/closure is reached
  • Determining exposure, establishing adequate reserves, and making timely adjustments as required
  • Maintaining accurate written records of relevant activities and ensuring claims procedural and documentation standards are maintained
  • Providing accurate and timely claims status updates to internal and external customers
  • Timely reporting and communicating with reinsurers
  • Liaising and relationship building with internal local and global AXA XL departments
  • Summarizing and updating Claims Manager on a regular basis, providing reports and statistical reporting where required
  • Maintaining market awareness and working with Claims Manager to maximize personal development
  • Anticipating and meeting all internal and external customer needs
  • Coaching or training less experienced claim representatives
  • Adherence to and management of expense budget

You will report to the Claims Manager - Construction North America.
