Job Summary

The Patient Access Associate is a key member of the MyMichigan Health team, responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and their families. This role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and Registration: Accurately and efficiently schedule and register patients for inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring all necessary information is collected and documented.
  • Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits, as well as obtain pre-authorizations when necessary.
  • Point-of-Service Collections: Collect co-pay and deductible amounts from patients in a diplomatic and customer-focused manner.
  • Documentation and Data Entry: Accurately and efficiently enter patient information into computer systems, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and up-to-date.
  • Communication and Liaison: Serve as a liaison between patients, financial counselors, and hospital patient accounting, ensuring all necessary information is communicated and documented.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification preferred.
  • Experience: One year of experience working with insurance and patient accounts preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Basic math proficiency and typing skills required.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to stressful situations and potentially traumatic or emotional situations. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information is essential.
