The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School is a private independent school that provides extraordinary educational and therapeutic services to students aged 8-22. Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will utilize your knowledge, experience, and training to engage your students and spark their passion for learning. You will plan, prepare, and teach lesson plans, considering the individual education plans (IEPs) of each student and adapting teaching strategies suited to their educational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver lesson plans that cater to the individual needs of students
  • Collaborate with parents, colleagues, and other essential partners in pivotal meetings, school-based events, and celebrations
  • Contribute to the school's therapeutic milieu by sharing your ideas and contributing to the school's programs and culture
  • Write compliance reports, including IEPs, that reflect your knowledge and understanding of your students and their needs
Requirements
  • Illinois Special Education License (LBS1) required
  • Academic background in elementary education and/or a core content in a secondary education area required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with students with Emotional Disabilities and/or Autism preferred
About the Position

This position offers a competitive salary of $55,000-$75,000/year based on experience. Our Special Education Teachers work Monday-Friday, 8:15am-4:30pm with a shortened academic day in the summer and time off in July and August.
