We are currently looking for a Railroad Operations Conductor. Minimum 1 year of experience required. While this is a non-FRA site, candidates must possess experience in conductor responsibilities.
Position Summary
In the role of Conductor, the individual will be responsible for the safe and timely positioning of the locomotive through effective collaboration with the Engineer, as well as assisting in various related activities. This position entails coordinating train crew operations, overseeing the loading and unloading of freight, and ensuring adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently position cars to facilitate loading and unloading processes.
- Ensure compliance with all train orders, signals, and railroad regulations.
- Conduct inspections of all equipment on cars prior to departure.
- Communicate information effectively via radio and telephone.
- Couple and uncouple cars, operate switches, and perform minor repairs as necessary.
- Collaborate with customers to guarantee accurate movement and placement of cars.
- Operate locomotive equipment using remote-control devices.
- Maintain a constant awareness of surroundings.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and enforce safety regulations.
- Experience working on an on-call basis.
- Ability to work varying shift schedules.
- Experience in operating heavy machinery.
- Certification as a train conductor by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), if applicable.
- Excellent verbal communication abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional customer service capabilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 83 pounds on rare occasions.
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and climb.
- Capability to work in confined or awkward spaces.
- Ability to ride on the exterior of rail equipment for extended periods.
- Willingness to walk long distances over uneven terrain.
- Commitment to working safely to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Compliance with wearing protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses.
